It started with a cough

He started his day

As he always would

He laced his shoes

And ran through the woods

He listened to music

And felt the breeze

Passing through

The towering trees

On returning home

He panted much

He couldn’t understand

Why it hurt so much?

He thought nothing of it

And shrugged it off

He ran a bath

And washed the sweat off

Kissing his wife

Then his two kids

Not to wake them

God forbid

Ready for work

He got in the car

He coughed hard

And saw stars

He arrived at work

Feeling weird

Dazed and tired

He started to fear

He collapsed on the floor

The others came

Call an ambulance

He is in pain

The ambulance arrived

In their gear

Spaceman suits

Ordering people clear

Took away

Everybody out

Cordoned off

People shout

To the hospital

This poor guy

Can hardly breathe

He can only lie

Put in a bed

Examined, scared

No one close

To love or care

Feeling weak

He can hardly move

Crying now

What can he do?

Put on oxygen

Case getting worse

Family told

They have been cursed

He slips away

To a final sleep

Forgetting family

As they weep

I just want to breathe

At the moment

I think we would like to breathe

I think we have given up

As we have to heed

We watch the news

And check the stats

How many more deaths

Staring at that fact

Vaccines now going around

The change is slow

We have to be patient

That’s how it goes

Maybe there is a chance

That soon we may be free

Not to protect ourselves

How good would that be?

We all need a little hope

We all need a little hope to get us through this day

For all that is going on throughout the world today

A little bit of positive to cherish and nourish our soul

Something to look upon, we need to have a goal

We can’t go on with this disease, fighting all the time

We can be strong together, we have to use our minds

For all the lies that they spew, all that comes out their mouths

Take it with a pinch of salt, they are only in power for now

For every day we wear a mask and feel like a horse

It may be annoying now but it is only a chore

Thank the heavens you’re not dead, it could be much worse

You could be up in heaven, looking down on earth

It is coming you know for all of us

No one cares or gives a fuss

It’s just a cold a little bug

You’re invincible, dont give a fluff

People are dying all around the world

People are coughing, germs swirl

It started with one, one patient x

Where are we now? it’s complex

You may lose someone, someone you hold dear

Maybe that will make things a little more clear

Health workers are dying trying to save

Governments are struggling, just to stave

One thing we are asked by all of them

Stay indoors, be responsible my friend

Social distancing, one metre between us

Is it that difficult? really so rough?

This is just the start it’s going to be hard

Support the others, stay on the path

We will beat this, together as one

This is real, it is not just for fun

The giver

The givers

The takers

The winners

The fakers

Do you feel better

Giving what you do

Just like robin hood

Taking, so true

Giving to charity

Great thing, why not

All is needed

They need a lot

Maybe you feel better

For giving away some wealth

Maybe you’re a good person

And you have your health

Charity starts at home

Look after your own

Your poor workers

Tents for homes

Life has changed

Now I am shamed

I’m black and blue

Sore and abused

No one cares

Would never dare

Taken from home

Now unknown

Forgotten me

Lost, maybe

Guess will not know

Which way to go

No way out

No shadow of a doubt

I hope you suffer

For what you’ve done

You’ve ruined my life

Before it’s begun

And for what this act?

To mark me for life?

Am I not good enough?

To be someone’s wife?

You’re a coward

You burned my face

You deformed me

Turned my skin to waste

I hope you rot

And you feel guilt inside

I will recover

I will live my life
