I like the fact I can say what I want

Do not judge

I am only human

My deepest thoughts laid bare

On a screen blinking at me

In a sombre room

Where i hear only my breathing

I adorn the silence

But I yearn for peace

Never happy

Although I have love

If I was to have everything

I would still be unhappy

And I probably will always be

As this emotion has drowned me

I always ask why

I can’t escape it

It is always pulling me back

Even though I am simple

I am just existing

I wish i could be happier

Will i be set free

Will my ball and chain

Miraculously unshackle

Will my debts be paid

To society

To my ex wife

Will i be at peace with my mother

Will my father come back to me

Can I dream for peace

An end to the pandemic

Water where there is none

Food where famine has been shunned

Can I help someone

Who needs to be helped

Can I matter to someone

Can I smile once more

Can I be loved

Can I love

We can all dream can’t we

What would I wish it to be

I don’t wish for blue anymore

It just doesn’t appeal to me

How bout yellow, I like it so

So bright and cheerful to see

Like a flower so sweet to smell

Weighing me down

My morale is

Making me drown

No matter what

I try to do

It suffocates me

Like super glue

Down my throat

Clogging my nose

No way to stop it

Time goes by

I feel sadder now

Can’t stop this gloom

Its overwhelming

Cannot pull through

I can’t be alone

Not in this room

Love our children

Sometimes when we have had a really bad day

Its nice to get home, see your family and play

I like colouring with her, even though I’m colour blind

It doesn’t bother her, she really does not mind

Playing video games with my son, to see his joy

It makes me happy seing him smile, oh my boy

My favourite time at the moment is at night

Reading to my daughter, wonderful books, such a delight

It is the little things that help us through our days

We all have our methods, they are all the right ways

Love them as you can, give them a great big hug

Let them know your feelings, show them your love

At the moment

I think we would like to breathe

I think we have given up

As we have to heed

We watch the news

And check the stats

How many more deaths

Staring at that fact

Vaccines now going around

The change is slow

We have to be patient

That’s how it goes

Maybe there is a chance

That soon we may be free

Not to protect ourselves

How good would that be?

Cousin Peter – hospital

I finally spoke with a friendly voice

That knows my cousin well

Turns out he was in hospital

Before the covid spell

But this voice doesn’t know

Anymore than me

And I’m going to have to dig

If I want to be freed

Burdened by the unknown

Only holding on to hope

Time is my only option

Call it an escape rope

My next steps that I’ll make

May provide something

And stop adding to this book

Because I’m really missing him

I never thought that I would leave

I have always been confortable

The greater unknown never appealed

I preferred not to know

Not to venture

To search for a new life

To raise a child

Not knowing the language

Fear never really imposed

Until the final moment

As if a knife to my throat

With failure marked on the blade

Ready to pierce my skin

At any moment

With the burning fires behind my back

That would melt my skin

If I ever looked back

I would walk blindly

Into the unknown

Fear i would brush aside

I will not be burned

As I would not look back

I may bleed

As I lose my way

But I will not submit

Never
