It started with a cough

He started his day

As he always would

He laced his shoes

And ran through the woods

He listened to music

And felt the breeze

Passing through

The towering trees

On returning home

He panted much

He couldn’t understand

Why it hurt so much?

He thought nothing of it

And shrugged it off

He ran a bath

And washed the sweat off

Kissing his wife

Then his two kids

Not to wake them

God forbid

Ready for work

He got in the car

He coughed hard

And saw stars

He arrived at work

Feeling weird

Dazed and tired

He started to fear

He collapsed on the floor

The others came

Call an ambulance

He is in pain

The ambulance arrived

In their gear

Spaceman suits

Ordering people clear

Took away

Everybody out

Cordoned off

People shout

To the hospital

This poor guy

Can hardly breathe

He can only lie

Put in a bed

Examined, scared

No one close

To love or care

Feeling weak

He can hardly move

Crying now

What can he do?

Put on oxygen

Case getting worse

Family told

They have been cursed

He slips away

To a final sleep

Forgetting family

As they weep

Harry the ghost

There is a ghost next to me

On this park bench

I don’t know what he wants

Or what is that stench

Hello Mr ghost

What is your name?

It is Harry kind sir

Are you a bit insane?

Why do you say that?

Asked puzzled little me

I can see you clear as day

Like the birds and the bees

No one has ever seen me

I have been here for years

I lost my life on this bench

Holding back ghostly tears

Were you homeless Harry?

I asked with concern

He nodded his head

They do never learn

What happened? I asked

Why did you die here?

Did you not have a family?

Nobody near?

Nobody who cared, he said

Not ever enough

It was the cold that killed me

My body had enough

But Harry, I said

Why can you not pass?

What’s stopping you?

Blocking your path?

I guess I needed to tell my story

Maybe it may change something

If it does not

Can we talk again?

Wait and see

Do you remember the last time you had to wait

How it felt, that unbearable state

Knowing that something was gonna come to you

But you have to wait, gotta go through

Maybe it was exciting, knowing the outcome

At the end, maybe it will be so much fun

Or is it a reward, for all your hard work

You should know, it has left you distraught

Maybe you have done something, waiting to fail

Maybe you are wishing that you could set sail

Remember the first time, when you bought a car?

That new car smell, feeling like a rock star

What else can we wait for? What can it be?

Well I am sorry, you’ll all have to wait and see

The immigrant

5. For my son

Sometimes I wish i could continue walking for an eternity

Searching forever for light

But knowing even if I crossed chasms

Seas and mountains

To the furthest reach of the world

I would never again find light

Because light has left me

And darkness will surround me

Forever

My son

I have only a photo

And the memories in my mind

If I was to ever lose them

Every time I close my eyes

I see him playing with his marbles

Eating his favourite food

Kissing his mother

Itching his arm when he wanted something

I still remember his voice

His sweet voice

His laugh when I told him a joke

I even miss seeing how he cried

When we comforted him

My god, you will decide for me

When it will be time

When I can hold my son’s hand again

I remember seeing those bastards

How they laughed

Down by the river bank

Pissing in the water

I took a discarded rifle

And I took aim

There were three of them

I could feel the air

Whistling ever so softly

I laid down on my chest

Out of their view

But close enough

I positioned myself

My breath faint

My eyes dry from the tears

I will make you suffer you fucks

And it won’t be quick

I had lost my family

My son

My reason to live

I focused on the one with his gun

For my family you fuck

Bang

Midnight, the bully stomper

There was once a young girl

Let’s call her midnight

She saw some nasty bullies

So she gave them a fright

Because when they were

Picking on a kid

Poor defenseless boy

Getting a fat lip

She said stop you scum

What do you think you’re doing

Pick on me

Try and put your shoe in

And this little midnight

Shy off 5 ft tall

She stopped the bullies

With her will, that’s all

Stand up for someone

If you can

If you can’t, tell someone

Make that your plan

Just because they’re different

What difference does it make

Help another human

It’s a piece of cake

Our little ones

How we watch over

Our sweet little ones

To be sure they are ok

Wrapped around their fingers

We’d do anything

As they suffer

We can only wait

And watch

When there are spiders

And flies

Keeping them from sleep

We are there

Is it because they need us

Or we need to be needed
