She don’t want me
Scruffy old me
I’m too skinny, no muscles
I watch as she flees
.
That other guy, he’s fitter
Look at his body, looks
I’m always reading comics
Or my head’s in a book
.
Not interesting, not at all
Like watching pain dry
Just plain old boring
I’m not gonna live a lie
.
She doesn’t notice my hair
My clothes as I try to impress
It seems just like
I’m trying to pass her test
.
I’m sure we like all the same things
Many common interests
If she could only know me
She wouldn’t care about the rest
.
Swallow my overwhelming fear
I’m approaching her, try to talk
I freeze solid in front of her
She smiles, my heart starts to stir
.
Taken from my latest poetry book: Searching for you by Philip Lister
Searching for you is a collection of poetry about love, heartbreak and happiness. A raw journey looking at our search in life to find ourselves and that special someone.
