Proceed with caution

Read the sign

A long way down

A steep decline

Surely if

We were to fall

To our deaths

That wouldn’t be cool

Hold my hand

We will make it there

Stay close to me

Don’t be scared

We start to cross

That rickety bridge

Starting to shake

Over the abyss

Stay with me

Don’t look down

We will make it

We will not drown

Moving faster

To get away

To reach safety

Keep fear at bay

Almost there

At the end

Nearly made it

Energy spent

Then we hear

The horrible sound

The chords break

From their bound

Gravity pulling

As the bridge falls

I hold you tight

Trying to stall

I won’t let go

Never would I dare

I look in your eyes

That fearful stare

I pull you to the top

On to me

We breathe together

And feel the breeze

Safe at last

To continue on

Forever searching

To us we belong

I look out the window

Sweet little bird

Your little cheep

Is all I heard

I see you in your nest

Everyday

I give you food

And watch you play

You search for twigs

And whatever you find

You bring it back

Leave nothing behind

You leave to dig

To pick up worms

To give to your babies

So they might learn

They are getting stronger

We hear them so

Fighting together

Siblings to and fro

One falls out

Of the nest

To the floor

And breaks its neck

The neighbourhood cat

Comes along

That poor birdie

That wasn’t long

The baby is big

Testing his wings

Trying to fly

A joy to hear sing

He flies up high

And toys in the sky

I always wondered

Why he does that, why?

He is a joy to watch

As he comes back down

His mother watching

Making no sound

Then he flies in a window

And makes a loud thud

That poor bird stunned

Will he have enough?

That cat is back

The mum defends her son

She attacks the cat

The battle won

The cat backs off

As the mum chirps at her boy

The cat pounces

And plays with her like a toy

The son escapes

Out of harm’s reach

He can only watch

Of course he can’t speak

He will have to learn

How to survive

Life isn’t easy

At least he is alive

I wait patiently

Waiting to adorn you

Your beauty

If only temporary

I still seek it

To quench the thirst

Of my eyes

To satisfy my need

Of inhaling your odour

To caress your

Soft velvetness

For the moment I remain

Patiently waiting

As a disciple

Why do you have this effect?

I never noticed it before

I just wish to nurture you

So you can give back

Your beauty in payment

So I can linger in your perfume

And think constantly of you

And even when you will die

I will have done my best

The coolness will come

And you will will be no more

My sadness will come back

But I will know

In myself

This goodbye

Shall not be

The last

I will wait again

For so long I have been used

Forever carried

Forever drank from

Forever eaten from

From one place

To the next

Never really thought about

Sure there have been chips

But I have lasted

If you really look after me

I could last for another generation

But if you don’t take care

Just for a moment

I could fall

And break

And yes

Maybe I could be glued

Back together

To be used again

But unfortunately

I’ll never be the same

It’s hard

Not knowing why I feel this way

Confined for so long

Playing with my mental puppet strings

Pulling, yanking

Am I am just to dance?

A merry jive

To the music of the propaganda

The conspiracies

The lies of powerful people

That feel they do not have to abide

I remember the angst

The unruly mental thoughts

Skipping through my mind

As that rope slapped against my brain

Again and again and again and again

Should I even start on the job?

The thought of being a point to it all

No, a mindless trill

I am just expected to be good

And continue fucking on

Where is my value?

Am I just a tool in a workbench?

As I always will be

Until worn and I will be changed

Traded in for a younger model

At a discounted price

Now I know what to expect

It isn’t any easier

Nor shall it ever be

And before you ask

To live on this earth

I would cherish every moment

For all it is worth

24 hours

That’s all the time left

It’s counting down so fast

Ordered behest

I can’t waste a minute

What do you want to do?

I will do anything

My true love for you

Should we make love?

Hold each other tight?

Never let go?

Glued with all our might

Why should I have to let go?

My selfishness powers through

I can not give up

My love forever true

Now the tears are coming

A breathing waterfall

I cannot stop myself

Cannot stop at all

Why has it got to be like this?

I am so distraught

It could of been so different

If only you had fought

Don’t you love me?

How could you give up?

Is our love not good enough?

Was it just too much?

Now it eats your body

Nothing but a shell

Watching you in agony

Your pain cannot be quelled

What have I become?

But when I will lose you

So you want to get into my head?

Are you sure doctor? my head’s a mess

I can’t understand it, the emptiness I feel

Nothing will quell it, not even the pills

I quite like the darkness, its comforting way

I’ve got used to it, keeping demons at bay

Though I don’t talk aloud, only to myself

Otherwise you would worry, for my mental health

I’m ok doc, I assure you, it’s true!

I worry about me, you worry about you

My days will dwindle on, just trickling by

Pitter patter rain drops, falling from the sky

Do you hear them doc? drip drip drop

I love listening, like a ticking clock

It’s funny how these sounds, we grow to love

Cherishing pattern, can never have enough

Well I guess that’s the end, can I go now?

I do hope to see you again, I hope somehow

You are such a great listener, how you listen good

All the shrinks before you never even could

You know I’m not dangerous, not really doc

The last time surprised me, a real real shock

When can I get out of here? let me free please

What, do I have to beg? Down on my knees

I promise I’ll be good, I swear on my life

If you don’t let me out, I’ll cut you with a knife

It started with a cough

He started his day

As he always would

He laced his shoes

And ran through the woods

He listened to music

And felt the breeze

Passing through

The towering trees

On returning home

He panted much

He couldn’t understand

Why it hurt so much?

He thought nothing of it

And shrugged it off

He ran a bath

And washed the sweat off

Kissing his wife

Then his two kids

Not to wake them

God forbid

Ready for work

He got in the car

He coughed hard

And saw stars

He arrived at work

Feeling weird

Dazed and tired

He started to fear

He collapsed on the floor

The others came

Call an ambulance

He is in pain

The ambulance arrived

In their gear

Spaceman suits

Ordering people clear

Took away

Everybody out

Cordoned off

People shout

To the hospital

This poor guy

Can hardly breathe

He can only lie

Put in a bed

Examined, scared

No one close

To love or care

Feeling weak

He can hardly move

Crying now

What can he do?

Put on oxygen

Case getting worse

Family told

They have been cursed

He slips away

To a final sleep

Forgetting family

As they weep
